Welcome to the Arizona Growler, a group blog replacing The O’Hara Factor.  It will focus on issues from here at the University of Arizona all the way to international issues with a Christian conservative-libertarian bent.

I’m currently looking for contributing authors.  If you’re interested, please email me or leave a comment.  Thanks!

  1. Hey Garrett.
    This is a comment on your “I stand with Isreal” sticker…

    There is really no reason that Christians should feel that automatically they need to be allied to the aims of the Jewish state. It is true that Jewish people have a special place in God’s kingdom (example: the Jews who have put their trust in Christ will be raised first to glory etc; see also Romans 9:4-5) but the Jewish state of Israel operates outside of the kingdom of God - those who follow the Jewish religion deny Jesus as Messaiah and thereby stumble on the Stone (Is 8:14, 28:16) as was foretold about them.

    In particular, who are the real sons of Abraham? Read Romans 9 - it may change your perspective - especially verses 6 to 13.

    While I believe that it is true that there is something special about a racial Jew becoming a follower of Christ because of the legacy of Abraham (Gen 12:3), I do not stand with the state of Israel because I see no reason to believe that this state is divinely sanctioned. In light of the recent reprehensible attacks of Israel on Lebanon any support I may have had for Israel is gone… and I say this as someone who does not see Hezbollah in a favorable light…

    Leaving you with best regards and some food for thought;
    SJ

  2. Sheldon,
    I’m certainly not contending that the Israeli state is holy, but their aims in this war are absolutely justified. This war has been going on for more than 50 years, and history shows us that in the vast majority of cases, war only ends when there is one clear winner.

    Hezbollah does not want peace. I see no reason Israel should try to neogotiate it.

    Regards,
    Garrett
